Future of Nursing Mentorship Program

PWA is offering a free virtual nursing mentorship program for high school students. During the four-week program in November and December 2020, students will engage with local health care employers and explore careers in nursing. The group will meet via Zoom on Thursdays and will include discussions with local health care professionals, informal presentations, and advice from mentors. Information on future opportunities for students will be provided at each session.

Students will learn about the many career paths in nursing and gain insight into college options including OHSU School of Nursing and the University of Portland School of Nursing. The program aims to strengthen and diversify the local pipeline of future nurses, while helping students develop the confidence, knowledge and early professional networks that support college-and-career success.

Mentors & Partners

Mentors are an essential part of the Future of Nursing Mentor Program. They establish a professional connection with students and serve as professional role models. We are looking for nursing professionals to team up with a small group of high school students and other caring mentors. Interested in becoming a mentor? Click here to learn what’s involved and fill out a simple interest form. For more details, email ave@portlandworkforcealliance.org.

The program is generously made possible by our industry partners, including the University of Portland School of Nursing, Kaiser Permanente, OHSU, and Legacy Health, as well as by grant funding from the Oregon Community Foundation and Legacy Health.

* All students are welcome to apply. Priority consideration will be given to students from partner districts who can attend all four sessions and who briefly explain their interest in participating. Additional consideration will be given for students from underrepresented populations.
