Congratulations! You’re one of 7,000+ students signed up to attend the NW Youth Careers Expo on Tuesday, March 13, 2018, at the Oregon Convention Center.
Now what?
Before you sit down for a mock interview or check out the cool exhibits on the convention floor, do yourself a favor: Try one of WorkSource’s two Career Talks on Hidden, High-Wage Jobs aimed at giving you information that could lead you down a career pathway you’ve never considered before.
Tens of thousands of new jobs are forecast to be created by 2025 in the Construction, Healthcare, Manufacturing and Technology sectors. These jobs pay average salaries ranging from $40,000-plus to as high as $80,000 or more, and many don’t require a four-year degree.
What kinds of jobs? Entry- and midlevel positions include traffic controller/flagger, dental assistant, medical records coder, machine operator, welder, computer user support specialist, and information security analyst.
The Career Talks sessions are scheduled at 10 a.m. and noon. They are presented by WorkSource, a coalition of public and private agencies that specialize in workforce development in the Portland metro area and SW Washington.

Many industries have a shortage of workers and are willing to train, coach and educate new employees at low or no cost. What you learn at one of these Career Talks just might be the thing that sets you on a path you hadn’t imagined.
WorkSource also has a booth in the Expo’s Public & Human Services Zone. Many of our other Expo exhibitors will be happy to talk with you further as well.
