PWA Summer Career Academy

The Summer Career Academy is a week-long mentorship program aimed at students who identify as female, non-binary, and/or gender expansive. This four day career empowerment program includes presentations from inspiring leaders in the community, working in fields such as local government, human resources, health, and construction. Join us for this PAID opportunity to invest in yourself, meet inspiring women and gender expansive people, and learn how to move from your first job toward your dream job. 

Program dates: June 24-27, 2024

Who can apply: Students entering grades 10-12 in the fall and attending any Portland-metro high school. (Priority given to students from PWA partner districts when space is limited.) These sessions are tailored for students who identify as female, non-binary or gender-expansive; all are welcome.

Inclusion: PWA welcomes students from all racial backgrounds and ethnicities, citizenship statuses, socioeconomic backgrounds, gender identities and expressions, sexual orientations, religions and abilities. YOU are welcome here.

More program details: This is a morning program and will end by 12:30 pm each day. Light lunch and morning snacks included. Completion stipend is $200. Whether you have a job or are looking for one, this paid career experience can help you build skills, confidence and networks for your next job and your future career. During this four-day academy aimed at students entering grades 10-12, you will:

  • connect with women in inspiring careers and hear their tips
  • map your strengths and learn advanced job search skills
  • create standout resumes
  • get budgeting tips to make the most of your paychecks
  • practice job interviews with confidence
  • connect with other students who have goals and dreams for the future, just like yourself

How to apply: Apply using the button above. Application deadline is rolling, but apply by May 31, 2024 for priority consideration. We will start to review applications and send the first round of acceptances in late May. We will fill any remaining spots and create our waitlist in early-mid June. We plan to accept about two dozen students total.
