PWA works with Oregon employers to host about two dozen career days a year for high school students, and we support the “Discover Careers” program for Oregon Health & Science University. Here are some of our favorite photos from late winter and early spring career days. (Read what students say about the value of these career days.)
Design is an important part of Portland’s employment outlook, so we’re glad to work with such a rich diversity of businesses with specialties such as shoe design, industrial design, graphic design and experience design. They include Nike, Instrument, Upswell and Ziba Design.
We also took students to McKinstry, a full-service DBOM firm (design, build, operate and maintain). McKinstry folks did an excellent job showing the many cool careers connected to creating (and caring for) energy-efficient buildings.
We also visited a number of health care employers, including Legacy Health and Oregon Humane Society. Health care is one of the region’s fastest growing employment sectors.
Finally, our tech career day at Elemental Technologies was very popular with students. So were two tri-county career days at Microsoft, one aimed at girls.
